Hi Artemis,

I'm not sure I follow you. Which application muted your sound card?

Which OS and browser are you using at home? Are you using the Silverlight plugin or WMP plugin?

It seems strange to be mad at a content provider because of a technical problem. If you give me a detailed description of the problem you're experiencing, I may be able to help you. You can also report issues to feedback@nbcolympics.com.

Hi Libby,

The problem you describe is mentioned in the NBC Olympics video FAQ (http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/faq.html). Here's what the FAQ says:

"Q: I have run the Silverlight installation program several times but the website is asking me to install again.
Some users will not be able to upgrade Silverlight due to their OS settings. If you are seeing this issue then you should follow these steps:

1. Uninstall Silverlight as described by this Silverlight support page: http://support.microsoft.com/silverlight#tab3
2. Restart your computer
3. Visit http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/index.html
4. Click on any of the videos
5. When prompted, install Silverlight again
6. When installation is complete, restart your browser
7. Return to http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/index.html"

As for the WMP option... There's no special link to it. Basically, when you get prompted to install Silverlight (if Silverlight's not detected), you'll notice that the other option in the prompt besides "Yes, install Silverlight" is something like, "No, proceed anyway." Just click on that and it'll take you right past the Silverlight requirement and just use WMP instead.

i hate it too. i can watch at work but not home. then suddenly the audio wasn't working even on my PC at work. very annoying. i checked silverlight forums and many were having the same problem with no fixes in sight. i finally figured out that the stupid, bug infested travesty of an application had checked the mute box on the control panel of my speakers. once i found this everything was hunky dory - well at work - still can't watch at home. and yes, i am now eternally pissed off at MSNBC and have no intention of visiting their sites for anything ever again.

Hi -- my husband has Vista and IE7 on his laptop, and even after repeatedly trying to install Silverlight, restarting browser, restarting OS, still the browser does not recognize that silverlight is installed. We want 24/7 coverage of Bob Costas's hair, and so are rather disappointed. I am running XP on my desktop and also had a very frustrating experience trying to get silverlight installed after I first tried running without it. On both my XP machine and an older 200 machine we have at home, I was unable to find a link on the NBC Olympics site to run a WMP stream.

Every time the NBC Olympics website throws up a "your platform is not supported" notice, you create an enemy for life. All the Linux, older Mac, older Windows, and myriads of other excluded system user now all hate your guts!

JUST GIVE US THE MMS STREAM URLS DIRECTLY (ADS OR NO ADS, WHATEVER). WE'LL TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR FIGURING OUT HOW TO WATCH THEM OURSELVES!

I'm told that the Flip4Mac plugin is not working due to some Javascript interop issues in the page itself, and not due to media playback issues, but I haven't seen a credible debug yet.

As for availability... Like I mentioned earlier, the broadcast policy is dictated by the IOC.

I would have thought Flip4Mac is the only thing necessary....*if* content providers could have stuck to a wmv standard But, apparently, they didn't...boo! In the end, I can't get it to play no matter what. I'm greeted with, "Sorry, this video is not available in your area"....boo again.
